Lightspeed Champion Session

The youtube of the Lightspeed Champion has now had over 1,000 views.  Quite chuffed with this.  Just in case you haven’t seen it, I’ll add it here.  Very good it is too.

are you andrew learmonth?

Like most men I read the paper back to front. Unlike most men my paper is the Guardian. I have a nice routine of looking at the reviews, then the obituaries and then the letters page. While quickly browsing the obituaries I saw this:

I don’t have that common a name so this really freaked me out. Almost like I was in that short lived program where a man got tomorrow’s paper delivered to his front door. Perhaps tomorrow I was for the chop. Turns out it was my namesake the famous academic Andrew Learmonth who had died.

I knew of his existence because like everyone else with a pc, an internet connection and five minutes to kill I have entered my own name into Google. I also know there’s an Andy Learmonth who played/s rugby in the central belt and an Andrew Learmonth who does something with swimming in Leeds. I wonder how many others there are? If only Dave Gorman hadn’t been there before me, there could be a comedy show in this.

Apparently there was a famous Learmonth who left Scotland and then went to Russia and is now responsible for hundreds of bastard Learmonths/Learmontovs. Think he was also a bit of a soldier as well.

There was a Learmonth in the North East who became quite notorious after being ASBO-ed from an entire village, but he has nothing to do with me.

The thing about the internet is that everything on it is kept. You can’t delete blogs they remain somewhere in someon’s cache or on the internet archive. No doubt at some point in the future one of my bastards or offspring will look up Learmonth and the internet and see in the early part of 2008 his great great grandfather had fuck all else to do but update a sparsely read blog. Makes you think.
